Phoenix, Arizona based Electric Transportation Applications
(ETA) and Electric
Transportation Engineering Corporation (ETEC) working in
conjunction with Salt River Project (the water and power provider for
the greater Phoenix area) developed the E-DriveII battery
electric propulsion system for the fleet of electric excursion boats
operated by Rio Lago Cruise Company on Tempe Town Lake. The E-DriveII
represents a leap forward in battery powered electric boat technology.
Utilizing technology developed in part for tomorrow's electric cars,
the E-DriveII incorporates efficiency, reliability and
safety features previously unavailable in battery powered electric
boats. With its silent operation and no emissions to the air and water,
the E-DriveII can be utilized on even the most
environmentally sensitive waterways with minimal impact.
The E-DriveII utilizes sealed absorptive glass
mat (AGM) batteries which produce no gas or liquid releases and
requires no maintenance. The E-DriveII batteries are charged
using the ETEC SuperCharge fast charging system developed and
engineered for marine use by ETEC. Using the ETEC SuperCharge system
and the AGM battery, the E-DriveII can be recharged in six
minutes, rather than the several hours required by conventional
charging systems. Rapid recharging of the Rio Lago Cruise Company
electric excursion boats can be accomplished within the time required
to load and unload passengers, allowing the E-DriveII
powered boat to operate in continuous service, without extended breaks
for battery charging. |
Clean, quiet, efficient, reliable, and maintenance free, the
E-DriveII represents is the cutting Edge of battery electric
propulsion technology.  The
E-DriveII is fully redundant twin 10 horsepower inboard
drive system. It utilizes extremely high-efficiency alternating current
motors operating in a direct drive mode. The motors are controlled in
both forward and reverse over their full range of power by electronic
motor controls developed specifically for the E-DriveII. The
controls provide extremely high efficiency over the entire range of
operating speeds.  |
